If you are a registered engineer with a Canadian association recognized by Engineers Canada, you may be eligible for a simplified admission process to the OIQ, which regulates the profession in Quebec. This page outlines the application process.
Get started by submitting your application to the OIQ. Be sure to include all required documents and pay the applicable fees. As soon as your file is complete, we’ll start processing it.
Once your application has been validated, you’ll receive an e-mail giving you access to four mandatory online training courses, offered in French:
These courses will help you understand the specifics of the engineering profession in Quebec and its legal framework. They are required, but do not lead to an exam. They last about 4 hours 45 minutes and can count towards the 30 hours of continuing education required of members.
Once your application has been validated and the training courses completed, your file will be submitted to the Admission Committee. Please allow 6 to 8 weeks for your file to be submitted to this committee.
Once the Committee has rendered its decision, you can finalize your registration with the OIQ via your online portal. By becoming a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec, you will be able to use the title of engineer or the abbreviation ‘eng’ and practise your profession in the province with full legitimacy, while complying with your professional obligations.
When applying for admission, you must declare all permits obtained from other associations in Canada, including any limitations.
To work as an engineer in Quebec, you must demonstrate an adequate command of French when you apply for admission. If you do not meet this requirement, you may be granted a one-year temporary permit, which is renewable under certain conditions. For more information, see the page on language requirements.
Please allow 6 to 8 weeks for your application to be processed, and evaluated. The OIQ will make the necessary verifications with the association that issued your permit to practice. We will then inform you if additional documents are required.

When you are already a member of an engineering association in Canada, you can benefit from a simplified admission process by choosing the regular permit. The admission process is simpler, faster and less costly than applying for a temporary permit for projet.
Please note that in addition to the fees listed below, you will also have to pay the annual membership fee, like all registered members. See our fee schedule for complete details.
