Only those who hold the title \u201cengineer\u201d in Quebec, are allowed to practice the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legisquebec.gouv.qc.ca\/en\/document\/cs\/I-9\" data-gc-link=\"https:\/\/www.legisquebec.gouv.qc.ca\/en\/document\/cs\/I-9\">activities reserved<\/a> for the profession, a measure that seeks to protect the public.<\/p>\n<p>To become a member of the OIQ, a person must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">Submit an application for admission and meet the criteria set out in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legisquebec.gouv.qc.ca\/en\/document\/cs\/I-9%252010.1%2520\/\" data-gc-link=\"https:\/\/www.legisquebec.gouv.qc.ca\/en\/document\/cs\/I-9%252010.1%2520\/\">R\u00e8glement sur les normes d\u2019\u00e9quivalence de dipl\u00f4mes et de formation<\/a> (in French only).<\/li>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">Have an academic and professional record that demonstrates the required knowledge.<\/li>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">Take equivalent courses or pass the OIQ\u2019s examinations, as assessed by the OIQ.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/div>                            <\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n\n    <div class=\"stepItem-footer footer-wrapper\">\n        <span class=\"sf-plusTxt\">\n            <span class=\"txt-plus\">See more<\/span>\n            <span class=\"txt-moins\">Voir moins<\/span>\n        <\/span>\n        <span class=\"plus\"><\/span>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"cs-item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"stepItem\" data-component=\"stepItem\">\n    <div class=\"content\">\n        <h2>Becoming a candidate for the engineering profession<\/h2>\n        <div class=\"content-wrapper\">\n            <div class=\"inner-content\">\n                                    <div class=\"wysiwyg \">\n\t<p>The newly admitted candidate enters the Professional Admission Program and is officially designated as a Candidate to the Engineering Profession (CEP). Accompanied by a supervisor, the candidate will five years to complete the program\u2019s three components:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">The theoretical component includes 25 to 30 hours of training, followed by the professional exam (there are <u>costs<\/u> associated with these steps). (Vers 3.2 Becoming an engineer in Quebec)<\/li>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">The practical component lasts for at least 24 months until the required competencies are attained.<\/li>\n<li data-gc-list-depth=\"1\" data-gc-list-style=\"bullet\">The linguistic component which validates a sufficient knowledge of spoken and written French, according to the criteria of the OQLF.
