When you register for admission examinations, you must pay the related fees. In fact, you must pay the examination fee for every examination you fail and decide to retake and for every request to review an examination.
Please note the following terms and conditions for payment:
- Admission examination registration fees are not refunded even if you do not write the examinations for whatever the reason;
- Even if you notify the Secretary of the OIQ in writing to cancel your registration for an examination, your registration fee will not be refunded and the amount you have paid cannot be applied toward a registration for a later session;
- There are three acceptable payment methods: cheque or postal money order made out to the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec; Mastercard or Visa credit cards; debit card or cash at the offices of the OIQ only.

Closing a file
When candidates fail the same examination for the third time, their file is automatically closed.
Reopening a file: Candidates may request that their files be reopened if they provide evidence that they have improved their engineering training in the field of the examination they failed. They will then need to fill out the Reopening an Application request form and pay the permit application fee (click here to view the Fee Schedule).
Deadline: The files of candidates who do not write their examinations by the deadlines set for them by the Professional Practice Admission Committee (previously named the Examiners' Committee) will be automatically closed.
Reopening a file: Candidates may eventually request that their files be reopened. To do so, they need to fill out the Reopening an Application request form and pay the permit application fee (click here to view the Fee Schedule).
The files of candidates who cheat or attempt to cheat may be closed.
When a file is closed, this means that the candidate's permit application is rejected. Therefore, when candidates submit a request to reopen their file, it will be considered a new permit application. In this case, the OIQ will no longer be bound by the admission requirements, the Policy on Evaluating Engineering Permit Applications or the examination guide that were in force before the candidate’s file was closed. The OIQ may reject the permit application or require the candidate to take a new set of examinations.
When a permit application is reactivated after a candidate has failed the same examination three times, the Professional Practice Admission Committee (previously named the Examiners' Committee) will require him or her to take that examination, plus an additional examination, and the other examinations required under the Policy.
Candidates who want to submit a request to reopen their file may do so in writing by filling out the Reopening an Application request form. If required by the Secretary, they must provide new documents and pay the fees set out in the applicable fee schedule when they submit their request (section 9.5 of the Policy on Evaluating Engineering Permit Applications).

Change of address
When candidates move to a new address in Québec or elsewhere, it is their responsibility to immediately notify the OIQ’s Access to the Profession Department of this change in writing. They must also send written notice to this department whenever they change their telephone number or e-mail address.
