How to obtain an engineer's permit
You earned your engineering degree in Quebec
Upon award of your undergraduate engineering degree, you should apply to the OIQ for a junior engineer's permit.

Enclose the following materials with your duly completed application form:
- Payment of the permit application fee.
At this stage in the process, only the permit application fee must be paid, either by cheque or money order (Canadian funds). - A copy of your birth certificate.
- A recent passport-sized photo (5 cm X 7 cm), bearing your signed certification that it is of you.
- Official transcripts for each of the degrees submitted in support of your application, without exception. An official transcript must be sent directly to the Order from the educational institution that produced it.
- The engineering degree supporting the application or certification that such a degree has been awarded.
- Where applicable, documents proving that your is adequate for engaging in professional activities.
Your permit application will be reviewed by the Order, which will provide you with documentation pertaining to your application if you have met all requirements. You will be entered on the roll of the Order after sending in your application for enrolment, paid all fees and taken out personal professional civil liability coverage, where applicable.
Upon being entered on its roll, you become an official member of the Order. Under the law you may begin using the title of junior engineer at that time. Junior engineers are entitled to perform activities that are reserved by law for engineers, as long as they do so under the immediate direction and supervision of an engineer. You must pursue your efforts to obtain an engineer's permit from the time that you are entered on the roll.
