Now that you have earned your university degree, you have successfully completed the first and most important step to becoming an engineer. You must now begin the process that will enable you to achieve your ultimate goal: an engineer’s permit that will entitle you to legally practise the profession.
The mandate of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec is to regulate access to the profession and thus facilitate the entry of new recruits. In Québec, only those individuals registered on the roll of the Order who hold an engineer’s permit issued by the Order are entitled to provide the many professional services reserved for the engineering profession.
However, before being recognized as a fully autonomous professional and earning the right to use the title of “Engineer,” you must prove yourself to your professional order. To do so, every aspiring engineer candidate in Québec must follow a specific procedure, the first step of which is to obtain a junior engineer’s permit.
To help you, the Order has written the Guide du futur ingénieur, which clearly explains every step of the procedure to follow. There is also an interactive tool to help you better understand the various stages of this process. After using these tools to prepare, you will be ready to realize your professional ambitions and successfully enter the ranks of Québec’s second largest professional order!
