All engineers must subscribe to the basic group professional liability insurance plan contract entered into by the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) that provides coverage for liability they may incur as a result of faults committed
in the practice of their profession. The Regulation respecting professional liability insurance for engineers is intended
to provide all members, whether they work in general or private practice, with coverage that
meets all the requirements of the Professional Code.
Members who perform engineering services in general practice are covered by the basic group professional liability insurance plan, according to the
terms and conditions of the basic group insurance plan policy.
In addition to the basic group plan to which members are already subscribed, the Regulation provides for a mandatory group supplementary insurance plan for all members in private practice. The mandatory group supplementary insurance
plan is provided through the OIQ's broker.
It should be noted that junior engineer, engineer-in-training, and temporary restrictive engineering permit holder who work in private practice are also subject to
this requirement (subscription to the group supplementary professional liability insurance plan contract entered into by the OIQ).
