Mentoring for Women Engineering Students Pilot Project

The Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec is launching a pilot project known as Mentorship for Women Engineering Students to support Engineers Canada’s 30 by 30 initiative, which aims to increase the percentage of women among new members to 30% by 2030.

The purpose of the program is to guide young women who want to become engineers toward the engineer title. The program allows these women to benefit from seasoned engineers’ knowledge and experience of the profession while they study engineering at university.

The goals of this pilot project are:

    • Promote dialogue between women engineering students enrolled in a university program and experienced engineers who have solid knowledge of the engineering world and the business world.
    • Help mentees develop self-confidence and the courage to meet the challenges that interest them.
    • Give young women who want to become engineers the tools they need to achieve their goal.
    • Ease the transition into professional life and help mentees acquire specific skills and knowledge.
    • Increase the feeling of belonging to the engineering profession and reduce the stress of women students who are struggling to come to terms or identify with the profession.
